Unusual Projects Accepted
Although we service a wide variety of typical construction projects, DWS is also open to providing rental solutions for more uncommon scenarios.
In one situation, we provided a two-way radio system for a rail construction and maintenance crew. The repeater was located in the back of a truck, which would move with the crew along the railway and park in a position to provide an umbrella of coverage for workers.
For a wind farm construction with varied terrain and disparate locations of workers, they had repeaters everywhere, but not everyone could connect because there were no cell signals in many of the locations. We started with a standard IP Site Connect and ended with a Link Capacity Plus system, adjusting on the fly to put in the different system with completely different programming to help ensure all workers were connected.
In another case, when a large convention center completed their expansion, they unexpectedly did not have complete coverage in their new wing and needed it for a very large convention. DWS was able to immediately bring a repeater that was linked to the main convention system, along with the number of radios needed for the convention workers, to ensure seamless coverage at the convention and with the main convention center and their security teams.
One of our favorite Rentals stories is of a community who rented radios for their 4th of July fireworks display. The fireworks supervisor would put a rubber band around a push-to-talk radio button and place that handset next to the speaker. He would then listen to the music via headset from his radio unit so he could match the fireworks release with the exact timing of the music.
